This month was the month of football! Morocco is the first African country to enter the semi finals of the World Cup and the people in Morocco have gone crazy. When Morocco scores a goal, you can hear people cheering everywhere in their homes. After the match, everyone goes out onto the street and they carry Moroccan and Amazigh flags. People drive in their cars and motorbikes and beep their horns. Other people sing and do ahwach. I’m very happy to be able to spend this time in Morocco.
On Wednesday, Morocco is playing France in the semi finals. This is a big moment because of the relationship between France and Morocco in the colonial period and people here feel very emotional about it. It has been raining a lot this week too. Rain is very important in Morocco and people think that this is a sign that Morocco could win!
I travelled a lot this month. I went to Agadir for the first time. Agadir is an interesting city because the majority of people are Amazigh and speak Tachelhit. You can hear Tachelhit everywhere – on the street, in cafes, in taxis, which is different from other big cities in Morocco. I went to the beach and I was very happy to be able to do this in the middle of winter!
I also went to Casablanca and Ouirgane for a weekend.
The weather has got colder here, so we are drinking a lot of tea and eating askeef for breakfast – a soup made from barley and milk and it’s a traditional Amazigh food. There is no heating inside of Moroccan houses and this is a little difficult when the weather is cold.
