Gardens and Flowers
I think my wish from last month came true, because the weather in Vienna has been so lovely lately! Plus, the restrictions here are going to be lifted in a couple of weeks, which means restaurants and cinemas will finally re-open, and people will be able to meet in groups again. We have also had a curfew for months now, so it will be nice to stay out later than 8pm!
Setagaya Park
At the beginning of the month, I went back to my favourite park, Stadtpark, because I had heard about a flower display that is a popular attraction every year. Sure enough, in the centre of the park is a beautiful arrangement of flowers – unfortunately, I couldn’t get a photo of the whole thing, since it’s such a big area, but you can imagine how amazing it is! I then found out that there are similar places all around the city, so I will be sure to go and see them. At the entrance you can buy tulips and either take them home or contribute to the arrangement – it’s a really great idea.
There is definitely a running theme of gardens and flowers on this report, because the highlight of my month was visiting Setagaya Park, which is a Japanese garden in the 19th district of the city. The garden was smaller than I was expecting, but this just made it more quaint. There are several ponds and streams with little ducks in them, as well as cherry blossom trees and other unusual plants. A Japanese tea house lies in the middle of the garden, right next to a fountain, but unfortunately no one can go in at the moment.
Like many places across the world, Vienna’s Döbling district and Setagaya, a suburb of Tokyo, are twin cities. In fact, the designer of the garden in Vienna tried to mirror the one in Setagaya as best as possible.

At the end of the month, we had 30 degree heat, so my friends and I went to Untere Alte Donau, which is very near the Danube. We spent the day enjoying the heat and going for a swim in the canal – something I’d certainly like to do more of soon!

Ich glaube, dass mein Wunsch vom letzten Monat wahr wurde, weil das Wetter in Wien in letzter Zeit so schön war. Außerdem werden die Einschränkungen in ein paar Wochen hier gehoben, was bedeutet, dass Restaurants und Kinos endlich wieder öffnen werden und die Menschen sich wieder in Gruppen treffen können. Wir hatten auch seit Monaten eine Ausgangssperre, also wird es schön sein, später als 8 Uhr draußen zu bleiben!
Am Anfang des Monats ging ich zu meinem Lieblingspark, Stadtpark, denn ich hatte von einer Blumenpräsentation gehört und es ist jedes Jahr eine populäre Attraktion. Sicher genug, im Zentrum des Parks ist eine wunderschöne Anordnung von Blumen – leider konnte ich kein Foto von der ganzen Sache machen, da es eine riesige Gegend ist, aber man kann nur sich vorstellen, wie erstaunlich es ist! Ich habe dann herausgefunden, dass es ähnliche Plätze überall in der Stadt, also ich werde sie sehen. Am Eingang kann man Tulpen kaufen und entweder bring sie nach Hause oder füge sie der Sammlung hinzu – es ist eine wirklich gute Idee.
Untere Alte Donau
In diesem Bericht gibt es definitiv ein laufendes Thema von Garten und Blumen, denn der Höhepunkt meines Monats war mein Besuch zu Setagaya Park, was ein japanischer Garten im 19. Bezirk der Stadt ist. Der Garten war kleiner als ich erwartet hatte, aber dieses Detail machte es nur uriger. Es gibt viele Teiche und Bäche mit kleinen Enten, sowie Kirschblütenbäume und andere ungewöhnliche Pflanzen. Ein japanisches Teehaus liegt im Zentrum des Gartens, direkt neben einem Brunnen, aber im Moment kann es leider niemand besuchen.
Wie viele andere Orte weltweit sind Döbling und Setagaya (ein Vorort in Tokio) Partnerstädte. Tatsächlich versuchte der Designer des Gartens, Setagaya so gut wie möglich zu spiegeln.
Am Ende des Monats hatten wir 30 Grad Hitze, also gingen meine Freunde und ich nach Untere Alte Donau, was sehr in der Nähe der Hauptdonau liegt. Wir verbrachten den ganzen Tag die Hitze zu genießen und im Kanal zu schwimmen – etwas, von dem ich sicherlich gerne bald mehr machen würde!
