No hay duda que este mes pasado he experimentado de cultura en Granada como resultado de la estación festiva. Con la llegada de diciembre, los mercados de navidad han seguido y ahora el centro de la ciudad es siempre es lleno con gente quien está aprovechando de la música en viva, los luces brillantes y las atracciones disponibles. A pesar de Granada no es una gran ciudad en comparación de mi ciudad de hogar Birmingham y obviamente Londres lo cual es donde estoy situado a universidad, ya hay un buen ambiente y me disfruta el hecho que navidad aquí no es tan comercializada como estas otras ciudades.
Yo diría que la presencia de la Sierra Nevada ayuda aumentar la espirita festiva de la ciudad. Mis amigos y yo siempre disfrutamos la vista desde mi balcón donde podemos ver las montañas y luces de navidad a lo largo de una de las calles más famosas y llenas en Granada: Avenida de la Constitución. Con respecto a los luces, hay una chuchería gigante en el centro, me destaca más que las otras luces porque funciona como el punto de encuentro principal por la mayoría de gente. Puedo decir desde experiencia es una buena manera de encontrar tus amigos. La noria me recuerda de Londres, no es el mismo del ojo de Londres pero es carísimo y todo el mundo continua comprar billetes entonces en una manera hay similitudes.
También este mes finalmente he tenido la oportunidad de visitar el centro comercial famoso de Granada se llama ‘Nevada Shopping’. Accesible en metro, pienso que es un sistema de transporte debería aprovechar más mientras estoy en Granada sin duda. Para ser sincero el centro comercial es más gran que había pensado especialmente cuando la población de la ciudad es de solo 300.000. Pero al mismo tiempo no hay muchos otros lugares se puede ir a comprar donde todas las tiendas están situado en un sitio por eso usualmente está muy lleno especialmente durante los fines de semanas.
Mi viaje al centro comercial me permitió ver más de la ciudad y también encontrar algo para vestirse por el almuerzo de navidad con la oficina. El almuerzo fue una buena manera de encontrar y hablar con el resto de la oficina y los otros quienes no trabajo con diariamente (los ingenieros de software). Es emocionante ver que el número de empleadas en la compañía ha aumentado mucho desde llegue en septiembre entonces pienso que el almuerzo es genial ver a todos juntos en un solo lugar.
Aunque yo diría que el parte más memorable del mes fue el concierto de Hans Zimmer y John Williams. Ambos son compositores extremadamente famosos en la industria de música y película. Fue una experiencia inolvidable poder ver el proceso detrás la creación de la música y verlos realizadas en vivo. Algunas de las canciones incluidas fueron películas tales como ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Madagascar’, ‘Tiburón’ y ‘Star Wars’. Mi canción favorita de la noche fue ‘Time’ desde la película ‘Incepción’ porque sin la canción, la película no sería la misma. Es tan poderosa y para mi es la paradigma de una canción sinfónica. Fue un placer experimentarlo en persona.

There’s no doubt that I’ve experienced Granada’s culture this past month as a result of the festive season. With the arrival of December, the Christmas markets have followed and now the city centre is always full with people taking advantage of the live music, bright lights and attractions available to them. Although Granada is not a big city compared to my home city Birmingham and obviously London which is where I am based at university, there is still a good atmosphere and I enjoy the fact that Christmas here isn’t so commercialised as these other cities.
I would say the presence of the Sierra Nevada helps to increase the festive spirit of the city. My friends and I always enjoy the view from my balcony where we can see the mountains and Christmas lights on of the most famous and busy streets in Granada: Avenida de la Constitución. With respect to the lights, there’s a gigantic bauble in the city centre, it stands out to me the more than the other lights because it acts as the main meeting point for the majority of people. I can say from experience it is a good way to find your friends. The Ferris wheel reminds me of London, it is not the same as the London Eye but it is expensive and everyone keeps on buying tickets so in a way they are similar.
Also this month I finally had the opportunity of visiting Granada’s famous shopping centre called ‘Nevada Shopping’. Accessible by metro, I think it is a system of transport I should take advantage of more whilst I am in Granada without a doubt. To be honest the shopping centre is bigger than I had thought especially when the population of the city is only 300,000. But at the same time there are not many other places you can go to go shopping where all the shops are in one place therefore it is very busy especially during the weekends.
My trip to the shopping centre allowed me to see more of the city and also to find something to wear for the Christmas lunch with the office. The lunch was a good way of meeting and speaking with the rest of the office and those who I don’t work with daily (the software engineers). It is exciting to see that the number of employees in the company has increased a lot since I arrived in September so I think the lunch is great to see everyone together in one place.
However I would say the highlight of the month was the Hans Zimmer and John Williams concert. Both are extremely famous composers in the music and film industry. It was an unforgettable experience to be able to see the process behind the creation of the music and see them performed live. Some of the songs included were from films such as ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Madagascar’, ‘Jaws’ and ‘Star Wars’. My favourite song of the night was ‘Time’ from the film ‘Inception’ because without the song, the film would not be the same. It is so powerful and for me it is the epitome of a symphonic song. It was a pleasure to experience it in person.
