Otro mes de mi tiempo aquí en Costa Rica ha pasado. Este mes comenzó con las celebraciones de la Independencia que se celebra el 15 de septiembre, el día cuando el Acta de Independencia fue firmado. La noche anterior, el 14 de septiembre, se celebra con faroles y el 15 de septiembre hay desfiles patrióticos en que los niños desfilan.
El día feriado para la independencia era lunes el 19 de septiembre entonces decidimos aprovecharnos de un fin de semana largo y fui a Puerto Viejo. Debido al feriado, Puerto Viejo, los parques nacionales y las playas estaban super ocupados. Durante este viaje visité el parque nacional de Cahuita donde hay arena blanca que es super hermosa, y también allí se puede hacer snorkel para ver al arrecife. También, alquilamos unas bicicletas y fuimos a Punta Uva, una playa muy bonita que normalmente es tranquila pero este día muchos ticos estaban allí para disfrutar el feriado. Continuamos en bicicletas para ir al parque nacional de Manzanillo, donde vi unos monos. En nuestro ciclo de regreso a Puerto Viejo, nos detuvimos en Playa Cocles para disfrutar el atardecer y descansar un poquito antes de seguir yendo a Puerto Viejo en bici.

He visitado también a Monteverde este mes, donde hay el bosque nuboso. Aquí exploramos la reserva biológica del bosque nuboso por los caminos dentro del bosque. Vimos una catarata bonita pero no había tantos animales debido a la lluvia, pero me encantó caminar por el bosque nuboso porque se sentía de otro mundo. Después de la caminata, descansamos en un café para secarnos de la lluvia y había muchos colibrís que pudimos ver del café. El día que llegamos íbamos a hacer un tour de ziplining pero había un tormenta con relámpagos entonces era demasiado peligroso, por eso lo hicimos nuestra mañana final antes de regresar a San José. Esto fue muy chiva y había muchas buenas vistas durante el tour, pudimos ver el mar entre Puntarenas y la península de Nicoya, y también todos los árboles del bosque.

Este mes he tenido unos exámenes y entregas para la universidad entonces he estado muy ocupado con todo estos porque tienen un valor parcial de mi nota final. Para dos de mis cursos, tuve que escribir unos ensayos que eran muy interesante pero un poquito difícil pensar en las maneras de expresar mis ideas en español, y también eran mucho más largos que mis ensayos en Cambridge. También, tuve tres exámenes; dos eran presenciales en que pudimos usar nuestros apuntes de clase y de las lecturas, e incluso en uno pudimos usar las lecturas en un dispositivo, y el último examen que tuve era en línea. Tuvimos unos días para completarlo y subir los en Mediación Virtual (el Moodle que usa la UCR). Cuatro de estos exámenes y entregas eran en la misma semana entonces era bastante frenética hacer todo estos a tiempo. Con suerte completé todo y ¡espero que vayan bien para mis notas!

Después de entregar todos estos trabajos, pasé un fin de semana muy relajante en la playa de Dominical donde unos de mis amigos del intercambio surfearon y fui a un mirador y un restaurante con una vista espectacular con mis otras amigas que vinieron conmigo.

Another month of my time here in Costa Rica has gone by. This month started off with the Independence celebrations which is celebrated on September 15th, the day when the Act of Independence was signed. The night before, the 14th of September, they celebrate with lanterns in the street, and the 15th of September school children take part in processions.

The bank holiday for the independence celebrations was Monday the 19th, coincidentally the same day as the bank holiday for the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in the UK, so we decided to take advantage of the long weekend and go to Puerto Viejo. Because of the bank holiday, the areas surrounding Puerto Viejo (the beaches and national parks) were very busy. During this trip I visited Cahuita National Park where there is white sandy beaches and it is super beautiful, you can also go snorkelling there to see the reef. We also hired some bicycles and cycled to Punta Uva, a beautiful beach with is normally very quiet but the day we went there were many costa ricans there to enjoy the bank holiday. We continued cycling on to Manzanillo National Park where I saw some monkeys! On our cycle back to Puerto Viejo, we stopped at Playa Cocles to enjoy the sunset and rest a little before getting back to Puerto Viejo.
This month I have also visited Monteverde, where there is the cloud forest. Here we explored the biological reserve of the

cloud forest on the trails that spread out around the forest. We saw a beautiful waterfall but we were unable to see lots of animals because of the rain, but I loved walking through the cloud forest because it felt so otherworldly! After the hike, we rested in a café to wait for the bus and to dry off a little from the rain, and we saw lots of humming birds in the café. The day we arrived we were going to do a ziplining tour of the canopy but there was a lightning storm so it was too dangerous for us to do it then, so we did it on our final morning before we returned to San José. This was super fun and there was lots of good views during the tour, we could see the sea between Puntarenas and the Nicoya peninsula, and all the trees of the canopy.
This month I have also had lots of exams and deadlines for university so I have been very busy trying to get all these done because they are worth a percentage of my final grade. For two of my courses I had to write some essays which were interesting but a little difficult in how to express my ideas in Spanish, and they were much longer than my essays in Cambridge. I also had 3 exams; 2 were in person in which we could use our notes from class and the readings, and one we could even have the readings on a device, and the last exam was online. We had several days to complete it and upload it to the Moodle site of the UCR. Four of these exams and deadlines were over three days of one week so it was quite hectic trying to get it all done on time. Luckily I completed it all and hopefully they went well!

After submitting all this university work, I had a very relaxing weekend at the beach at Dominical where some of my friends from the exchange surfed while some of my other friends and I went to a viewpoint and restaurant with an amazing view! We also visited a pretty waterfall that we could swim in.
