As the sun set behind the rolling hills of the horizon, the water reflected all the beautiful colours of the sky.
El mes de octubre comenzó con buen tiempo. Estuve acomodando realmente en mi papel en la Residencia de Estudiantes y me siento cómodo en el ambiente profesional. Los 6 de mis compañeros de piso se han mudado y hemos estado conociéndonos muy bien mientras exploramos la ciudad, las actividades, la comida y las bebidas. Vivir con hablantes nativos me ha ayudado mucho con mi fluidez, y a su vez hace que cada día en la oficina sea más fácil.
Un día salí solo a encontrar un lugar tranquilo para ver la puesta de sol, y decidí investigar en foros web sobre los diversos lugares de interés que Madrid tiene para ofrecer. Fui a visitar un lugar situado en el parque Cerro del Tío Pío, en las afueras orientales del centro de Madrid. Como se puede ver en la foto adjunta, no me decepcionó. Miré una puesta de sol absolutamente impresionante antes de ir a tomar una copa y a bailar en la terraza con algunos amigos míos. La parte de baile me hizo sentir un poco incómoda, pero pronto me di cuenta de que todo el mundo se lo estaba pasando de maravilla y no podía haberme preocupado menos por mi baile. Ver a la gente bailar y unirse a ella parece ser una parte enorme de la cultura española y me ha encantado cada paso de lanzarme al rato.
El mes de octubre estuvo lleno de experiencias culturales para mí. Viajé a Toledo, declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO y antigua capital española, y tiré por el río después de un largo día de degustación de delicias locales, visitando el casco antiguo y visitando los edificios históricos. VI el impresionante castillo que ha sido abandonado desde el siglo 16th y encendió una vela en la impresionante Santa Iglesia Catedral Primada de Toledo. La catedral era absolutamente fenomenal y la arquitectura era una muestra de la hermosa época o edificio que se apoderó de España bajo dominio árabe. Días más tarde viajé con amigos españoles a una de sus casas, llamada Manzanares el Real. El senderismo por la montaña fue una experiencia surrealista con mucha suerte por el tiempo y se terminó muy bien con una comida tradicional del norte de España cortesía de los padres de mi amigo. Fue un honor ser invitado a su casa y comer con ellos, y nunca olvidaré la experiencia. Los días en los que voy la totalidad de mis horas de vigilia sin hablar una palabra de Inglés me cansan, pero siempre los encuentro el más gratificante.

La escena musical es algo que siempre me interesa dondequiera que esté, y quería intentar involucrarme de alguna manera durante mi tiempo libre mientras estaba aquí en Madrid. A través de una aplicación en línea donde he enviado en una especie de cartera, se me pidió que viniera y DJ en un club que se llama Sala el Sol. Esta fue una experiencia verdaderamente increíble y conocer a promotores y creativos con intereses similares fue brillante, y sin duda mejoró mi fluidez. Visité el museo El Prado con un videógrafo que conocí esa noche, quien compartió un interés similar por el arte y la cultura y me ofreció mostrarme el famoso museo.
Siento que las situaciones sociales actúan como un catalizador para desarrollar mis habilidades lingüísticas, debido al hecho de que hay menos presión en conseguir cada palabra correcta. Como sabemos que el fracaso es una parte enorme del proceso de aprendizaje, nunca me molesta cuando alguien me corrige en mi redacción, y aprovecho cada día como una oportunidad para aprender más.Ahora que los nervios originales de mudarme a una nueva ciudad se han agotado parcialmente, tengo una auténtica emoción por todo lo que Madrid me puede ofrecer para ayudar a desarrollar mis habilidades lingüísticas, Para prepararme para una carrera en la que pueda utilizar estas habilidades lingüísticas para trabajar con clientes y empresas de todo el mundo.

The month of October began with great weather. I am really settling into my role at the Residencia de Estudiantes and feeling comfortable in the professional environment. All 6 of my flatmates have now moved in and we have been getting to know each other very well whilst exploring the city, activities, food, and drinks. Living with native speakers has helped me greatly with my fluency, and it in turn made every day in the office easier.
I went out alone one day to find a chilled spot to watch the sunset, and I decided to research on web forums about the various sights Madrid has to offer. I was set on visiting a spot located in el parque Cerro del Tío Pío, on the Eastern outskirts of central Madrid. As you can see in the photo attached, I was not disappointed. I watched an absolutely stunning sunset before going for a drink and a dance on the terrace with some friends of mine. The dancing part originally made me feel a little awkward, but I soon realised everyone was having such a great time and couldn’t have cared less about my dancing. Watching people dance and joining in seems to be such a huge part of Spanish culture and I have loved every step (and slide) of throwing myself into it.
The month of October was packed full of cultural experiences for me. I travelled to the famous UNESCO world heritage site and former Spanish capital of Toledo, and ziplined over the river after a long day of tasting local delicacies, visiting the old city and seeing the historical buildings. I saw the impressive castle that has been abandoned since the 16th century and lit a candle in the breathtaking Santa Iglesia Catedral Primada de Toledo. The cathedral was absolutely phenomenal and the architecture was a display of the beautiful period or building that took over Spain under Arab rule. Days later I travelled with Spanish friends to one of their hometowns, called Manzanares el Real. Hiking up the mountain was a surreal experience with great luck from the weather and rounded off nicely with a traditional northern Spanish meal courtesy of my friend’s parents. It was an honour to be invited into their home and eat with them, and I will never forget the experience. The days where I go the entirety of my waking hours without speaking a word of English tire me out, but I always find them the most rewarding.
The music scene is something that always interests me wherever I am, and I wanted to attempt to get involved somehow during my spare time whilst here in Madrid. Through an application online where I sent in a kind of portfolio, I was asked to come and DJ in a club named Sala el Sol. This was a truly amazing experience and getting to meet promoters and creatives with similar interests was brilliant, and no doubt improved my fluency. I visited El Prado museum with a videographer that I met that evening, who shared a similar interest in art and culture and offered to show me around the famous museum.
I feel that the social situations act as a catalyst for developing my language skills, because of the fact there is less pressure on getting every word right. As we know failure is a huge part of the learning process, I am never annoyed when someone corrects me on my phrasing, and I take every day as an opportunity to learn more. Now that the original nerves of moving to a new city have partially worn off, I have a genuine excitement for all that Madrid can offer me to help develop my language skills, in order to prepare me for a career where I can use these language skills to work with clients and companies from all over the world.
