WHEN SHOULD I APPLY?
Applicants must apply at least four weeks before travelling. Deadline dates for applications are late April and late October. Late applications will not be considered.
WHEN CAN I EXPECT A DECISION?
Applications are considered in May and November, if progressed the candidate will be invited for interview. Final decisions will be made within four weeks of interview.
WILL I RECEIVE A TRAVEL ALLOWANCE?
Travel allowances are at the discretion of the Committee and would be considered as part of the application process.
CAN I APPLY WHILST LIVING ABROAD?
Yes, but only if you plan to travel to a different Country to learn another language. Please note that the Trust Committee would not usually consider an application from a candidate already living / studying abroad.
CAN I RETURN TO THE UNITED KINGDOM DURING MY SCHOLARSHIP?
The Trust Terms & Conditions state that all scholars must stay abroad for the full term of the agreed scholarship. Special consent of the Committee must be sought if a scholar wishes to return to the United Kingdom or reduce the length of the Scholarship term.
MUST I TO TRAVEL ABROAD TO RECEIVE A BURSARY?
Yes. The purpose of a Scholarship is to enable the applicant to perfect a better knowledge of a foreign language with the object of assisting him/her to promote British trade and/or services abroad
HOW LONG DOES A SCHOLARSHIP LAST?
The period of the scholarship will not be less than three months up to a maximum of 12 months.
DO I NEED HEALTH INSURANCE?
Yes. The applicant is required to make his/her own arrangements for insurance.

HOW OLD MUST I BE TO APPLY?
You must be 18 years or over to apply for a JST Scholarship.
CAN I STILL APPLY IF I HAVE SECURED A JOB ABROAD?
Yes but only if the job offers a low salary. You must declare on your application the company name of your employers abroad and details of your monthly salary. This information will be taken into account when considering your application.
CAN I RESIDE WITH ENGLISH SPEAKERS / AT UNIVERSITY HALLS?
The Trust recommends (wherever possible) you make arrangements to reside with native speakers / a local family (as opposed to University Halls).
CAN I STUDY MORE THAN ONE FOREIGN LANGUAGE?
During your Scholarship, the Trust asks that you study only one foreign language.
