Moin zusammen!
Ich heiße Rosalind und komme aus der Nähe von London. Ich bin vor einer Woche in Hamburg angekommen, um mein Masters zu studieren. Ich habe mein Bachelorstudium ,Law with German and German Law’, an der Universität Nottingham absolviert und habe die letzten drei Jahren als Beamtin in London gearbeitet.
Hamburg ist eine große Stadt (die zweitgrößte Stadt Deutschlands!) und ich wohne im Bezirk Eilbek, die ungefähr 20 Minuten von der Uni entfernt ist. Die Stadt ist nicht nur groß, sondern grün – Hamburg soll die grünste Stadt Deutschlands sein, also gibt es eine Unmenge Parks für mich zu entdecken.
Meine Vorlesungen fängen nicht bis zum 11. Oktober an, also habe ich ein paar Wochen um mich für meine Aufenthaltserlaubnis zu bewerben und neue Leute kennenzulernen. Ich muss mich daran gewöhnen, ,Hamburgisch’ zu sprechen – zum Beispiel sagt jeder ,Moin’ statt ,Hallo’!
Ich werde ,Einführung in das deutsche Recht’ als mein Masterstudium studieren und ich habe den Fachbereich Strafrecht gewählt, weil ich es während meines Bachelorstudiums besonders gern studierte. Meine Modulen enthält Sanktionenrecht und Jugendstrafrecht, die total interessant werden, aber es wird eine steile Lernkurve sein, juristische Fachsprache jeden Tag zu nutzen!.
Ich freue mich sehr darauf, meinen ersten Monat in Hamburg zu verbringen. Oktoberfest findet nächste Woche statt, die ich nie zuvor besucht habe und ich werde hoffentlich in einem Orchester beitreten. Ich werde aus den nächsten Wochen, bevor meine Vorlesungen anfangen, das Beste machen – ich plane, mit meinem Fahrrad die Stadt zu entdecken und so viele Leute wie möglich zu treffen.

I don’t travel light!
Hi everyone,
I’m Rosalind and I’m from near London. I arrived in Hamburg a week ago to study for a Master’s degree.I spent my undergraduate degree at the University of Nottingham, where I studied ‘Law with German Law’, and I’ve spent the last three years working as a civil servant in London.
Hamburg is a big city (the second biggest in Germany!) and I live in the area of Eilbek, which is about 20 minutes from the University. The city isn’t just big, it’s green as well – Hamburg is said to be the greenest city in Germany, so there’s loads of parks for me to explore.
My lectures don’t start until the 11th October, so I have a couple of weeks to apply for my residency permit and to meet new people. I still need to get used to speaking ‘Hamburgish’ – for example, everyone says ‘Moin’ instead of ‘Hallo’!
I’m studying ‘Introduction to German Law’ for my Master’s and I’ve chosen criminal law as my specialisation, as I really liked it when I studied it for my undergrad. My modules include Sanctions Law and Juvenile Justice, which will be really interesting, but it’ll be a steep learning curve using German legal vocabulary every day!
I’m really looking forward to spending my first month in Hamburg. Next week is Oktoberfest, which I’ve never been to, and I’m hopefully going to join an orchestra as well. I’m going to make the most of the next few weeks before my lectures start – I’m planning to explore the city on my bike and meet as many people as possible.
