in meinem Blog diesen Monat, möchte ich euch gerne über meine Reise nach Berlin berichten.

Dies war mein erstes Mal in Berlin und nachdem ich unterschiedliche Meinungen gehört hatte, war ich wirklich gespannt, was Deutschlands Hauptstadt so zu bieten hat. Worüber ich mich am meisten gefreut habe war, dass ich mich mit den Leuten aus meinem Deutschkurs aus England dort getroffen habe.
Nach einer sechstündigen Zugfahrt, ohne Verspätungen (ziemlich selten bei der DB), bin ich in Berlin angekommen. Am ersten Abend haben wir ein bayrisches Restaurant besucht. Die Kellnerinnen und Kellner hatten Dirndl und Lederhosen an und es gab eine Live-Band.Es fühlte sich komisch an den ganzen Weg nach Berlin zu reisen, um dann ein bayrisches Restaurant zu besuchen. Trotzdem hatte ich an den Abend sehr viel Spaß. Es war wirklich toll meine Klassenkameraden wieder zu treffen und mit ihnen auf Deutsch zu reden und das auch noch in Deutschland! Alle sagten mir, dass sich mein Deutsch deutlich verbessert hat und das war wirklich schön zu hören.

Am nächsten Tag besuchten wir das Stasi Museum. Bereits im ersten Jahr in der Uni lernte ich viel über Ostdeutschland und die Wiedervereinigung, daher war es sehr interessant für mich das alles zu hören. In einem Raum wurden Beispiele für die Abhörtaktiken der Stasi gezeigt. Es gab eine Giesskanne und ein Vogelhaus, in denen Kameras versteckt wurden.

Am Sonntag haben wir eine Trabbi Tour gemacht und das war wirklich brilliant. Ich habe mich zwar nicht getraut zu fahren, aber das war völlig in Ordnung, denn so konnte ich mir in während der Fahrt alle Sehenswürdigkeiten, ohne Ablenkung, anschauen. Wir fuhren an der East-Side Gallery vorbei und ich konnte nicht glauben wie riesig sie war!
Am letzten Tag besuchten wir das jüdische Musuem. Ich bin froh, dass wir das am letzten Tag gemacht haben. Ich fand es unglaublich traurig und gleichzeitig auch interessant. Als wir das Museum verliesen war ich wirklich sehr traurig. Trotzdem finde ich die Geschichten, die durch Bilder und Aufnahmen dort erzählt werden, unglaublich.
Allgemein hatte ich eine wirklich tolle Zeit in Berlin, auch wenn ich nicht sagen würde, dass Berlin meine Lieblingsstadt in Deutschland ist. Obwohl die Stadt voller Geschichte ist und es sehr viel zu sehen und zu tun gibt, fand ich die Stadt eher grau und trist und nicht so bunt und lebensfroh wie Heidelberg zum Beispiel.

In this months blog, I will tell you all about my trip to Berlin.
This was my first-time visiting Berlin and after hearing so many mixed opinions on the city, I was excited to see what the capital city of Germany had to offer. What made the trip even more exciting, was that I was going to meet my German class there from England!!

After a 6 hour train journey, with no delays (rare for Deutsche Bahn) I arrived in Berlin. On the first evening, we went to a Bavarian themed restaurant. All the waiters and waitresses were in traditional German clothing and there was a live band too. I did find it funny that I had travelled all the way to north east Germany to eat in a Bavarian restaurant, but I had a lot of fun. It was so nice to catch up with my classmates and to practice our German together, in Germany! They all said that my German had hugely approved, which was really nice to hear.
The next day we visited the Stasi museum. I had learnt a lot about the Wiedervereinung and east Germany in my first year of Open University, so found it really interesting. There was one room that had examples of spy tactics that the Stasi used, which consisted of a watering can with a camera hidden within it, and a wooden bird house.

On the Sunday we took a Trabbi tour which was brilliant. I was too scared to drive, but I didn’t mind as I took in all the sights with no distraction. I found the East Side Gallery that we drove past, particularly thought provoking, and couldn’t quite believe the scale of the wall.
Finally on the last day we visited the Jewish Museum. I’m glad we left this museum to the last day, as I found it incredibly sad and although enjoyable, I left the museum feeling very sad. However the stories that are shared in the museum and the pictures and footage where in incredible.
On the whole I really enjoyed my time in Berlin, however I wouldn’t say it is my favourite German city. Although full of history and lot’s of interesting things to see and do, I found the city overall quite gloomy and grey, and not as colourful and as bright as for example Heidelberg.
