Ben Kittoe: My First Two Weeks in Rio! (January 2026)

Olá! Eu sou o Ben, e estou muito ansioso por estar escrevendo meu primeiro relatório mensal sobre minha aventura, onde eu vou trabalhar como estagiário na indústria musical brasileiro no Rio de Janeiro pelas próximas seis meses! Cheguei aqui no Rio de Janeiro no dia 30 de dezembro – não acredito que já passaram só duas semanas, porque já estou me sentindo acostumado à vida carioca. Aqui está um resumo do que eu fiz até aqui, focando especificamente na cultura, na vida em casa e, claro, no meu trabalho!

A CULTURA:
Só comecei a trabalhar essa semana, então passei a primeira semana aproveitando a cultura com minha namorada brasileira, que já tinha voltado da nossa faculdade em Londres! Meu encontro com a cultura brasileira foi extremo, porque no dia seguinte à minha chegada foi o Ano Novo e, de acordo com o livro Guiness dos recordes, Rio de Janeiro tem oficialmente a “maior celebração do Ano novo do mundo”! Passei o ano novo com a minha namorada e com todos os amigos brasileiros dela, numa festa ENORME, com imagino mais de mil pessoas. Nunca vi uma coisa parecida na minha vida: depois de comprar seu bilhete, tudo era grátis e tinha muita comida, bares, e até mesmo um estúdio de tatuagem! Além disso, a gente só saiu da festa às seis horas da manhã, e ainda estava cheio! Embora louco, foi uma boa introdução à cultura: muita comida, muita música et muitas festas! Ah, e mais uma coisa: está muito calor! E verão agora, e só vai começar a se refrescar quando eu for embora, em julho!
A VIDA EM CASA:
Tenho muita sorte de já conhecer a família da minha namorada, com quem agora eu moro! Estou gostando muito da vida em família aqui. É muito social e, de fato, hoje à noite a gente vai para uma festa da família, que vai ser a terça festa dessa semana (viu? eu te disse que tem muitas festas no Rio!). Quando não está em uma festa de família, cozinhamos juntos ou assistimos novelas. Estou aprendendo muitas frases novas – algumas vão ser úteis para as aulas, outras nem tanto!
TRABALHO:
Acabei de terminar minha primeira semana do trabalho com Braslive Entertainment: uma gravadora, editora e agência de gerenciamento artístico com foco especialmente na música eletrônica brasileira. Já trabalhei quase um ano na indústria musical em Inglaterra, então estou aproveitando para aplicar meu conhecimento em um mercado diferente! A primeira semana foi tudo online, mas tudo em português (tenho sorte porque a maioria de termos técnicos são retirados diretamente do inglês!). Estou adorando do trabalho até aqui, especialmente em companhia com muitos DJs grandes! Estou trabalhando no departamento da gravadora, e estou aprendendo muito sobre o sistema e a organização de uma companhia desse tamanho.
E é isso! Com o Ano Novo, muitas festas de família e minha primeira semana de trabalho, foi duas semanas cheias, mas ótimas! Agora, estou ansioso para entrar em um ritmo, continuar aprendendo muito e escrever uma atualização daqui a um mês!

Hello! My name is Ben, and I’m very excited to be writing my first monthly report about my adventure to Rio de Janeiro, where I will now be working as an intern in the Brazilian music industry for the next six months! I arrived here in Rio on the 30th of December – I can’t believe it’s only been two weeks, as I’m already starting to get used to the carioca lifestyle! Here is a summary of what I’ve done so far, focusing specifically on the culture, life at home and, of course, my work!

THE CULTURE:

I only began work this week, and so I had an the entire first week to enjoy the culture with my Brazilian girlfriend, who already has gone back to our university in London! My first meeting with Brazilian culture was head-on, as the day after I arrived was New Years Eve and, according the Guiness Book of Records, Rio officially has the “biggest New Years celebrations in the world”! I spent New Years with my girlfriend and all her Brazilian friends in a HUGE party; with I imagine around a thousand other people. I’d never seen anything like it in my life: once you had your ticket, everything was free and there was lots of food, bars and even a tattoo station! Furthermore, we only left the party at 6am, and it was still completely full! Although crazy, it was a fair introduction to the culture here: lots of food, lots of music and lots of parties! Ah, and one more thing: it’s really hot! It’s summer right now, and it will only begin to cool down once I leave, in July!

LIFE AT HOME:
I am very lucky to already know my girlfriend’s family, with whom I now live with! I am really enjoying family life here. It’s very social and, in fact, just tonight we are going to a family party, which will be the third one this week (see? I told you there are lots of parties in Rio!). When not at a family party, we’ll often cook food together or watch soap operas. I’m learning lots of new phrases – some will useful for class, others not so much!

WORK:

I have just finished my first week at work with Braslive Entertainment: a record label, publisher and music management company with a focus on Brazilian electronic music. I have already worked almost a year In the music industry in England, and so I’m enjoying applying my knowledge to a different market! The first week was all online, but entirely in Portuguese (I’m lucky that most of the technical terms are taken directly from English). I am loving work so far, especially working with many big DJs! I’m working in the labels department, and so I’m learning lots about the system and a company of this size.
And that’s it! With New Year’s Eve, lots of family parties and my first week of week, it’s been a full but great two weeks. Now, I’m looking forward to getting into a rhythm, continuing to learn lots and write another update next month!
