Hannah Smith: Rapport mensuel – Janvier 2026
Depuis mon dernier rapport mensuel, j’ai pu profiter des festivités de Noël dans ma petite ville française avant de rentrer en Angleterre pendant une semaine. J’ai particulièrement apprécié visiter le marché de Noël au centre-ville, où j’ai pu discuter avec des commerçants locaux de leurs produits et déguster du vin chaud et de la fondue. Il y avait de la musique folklorique traditionnelle en direct sur la place, et ils ont installé un marché de Noël, une patinoire ainsi qu’un très beau spectacle de lumières. J’ai adoré voir à quel point une petite ville peut faire autant d’efforts pour Noël — cela a vraiment rassemblé les gens et encouragé tout le monde à sortir pour profiter de l’ambiance.
J’ai néanmoins beaucoup apprécié rentrer en Angleterre pendant une semaine pour voir ma famille et mes amis, car ils me manquaient beaucoup dans les semaines précédant Noël. Après cette pause, j’étais ravie de retourner en France pour le Nouvel An et de me préparer à reprendre le travail après cette période festive bien chargée. Peu après mon retour, j’ai réservé mon tout premier cours de ski. C’était une expérience très excitante et, même si ce n’était pas facile, j’ai vraiment apprécié monter en montagne et admirer les vues incroyables sur la vallée en contrebas.
J’ai passé la soirée du Nouvel An avec des amis français de l’église que je fréquente depuis mon arrivée à Sallanches en septembre. C’était un moment spécial de passer la soirée à cuisiner ensemble et à jouer à des jeux de société, ce qui m’a également donné une excellente occasion de pratiquer mon français. J’ai trouvé cela très gratifiant d’avoir passé toute la soirée à parler français et d’avoir noué des amitiés ici que j’espère pouvoir garder même après mon départ.
Le retour au travail après les vacances de Noël s’est bien passé, d’autant plus que la période hivernale la plus intense est désormais terminée. Je passe actuellement la majeure partie de mon temps au bureau à effectuer des tâches administratives, telles que répondre aux appels des clients et préparer des échantillons de vin à l’entrepôt. J’ai également pu consacrer davantage de temps à des tâches créatives, notamment la création de contenu marketing pour les réseaux sociaux et l’élaboration d’un plan de contenu pour la nouvelle année.
Le week-end dernier, je suis retournée à Annecy pour retrouver une amie américaine qui passe quelque temps en Europe. Comme elle parle également français, c’était très agréable d’échanger sur nos expériences de voyage et de vie dans la région de la Haute-Savoie. Il ne me reste plus que deux mois de stage, et j’essaie donc de profiter au maximum des quelques week-ends qu’il me reste pour continuer à explorer la région.
Since my last monthly report, I was able to enjoy the Christmas festivities in my small French town before returning home to England for a week. I particularly enjoyed visiting the Christmas market in the centre of town, where I was able to chat with local vendors about their products and enjoy mulled wine and fondue. There was live traditional folk music in the square, and they installed a Christmas market, an ice rink, and an impressive light display. I loved how a small town makes such a big effort for Christmas — it really brought people together and encouraged everyone to come out and enjoy the atmosphere.
Nevertheless, I also really enjoyed returning home to England for a week to see my family and friends, as I had started to miss them a lot in the weeks leading up to Christmas. After the break, I was excited to return to France for the New Year and to prepare to start work again after the busy festive period. Shortly after arriving back, I booked my first ever ski lesson. It was a very exciting experience and, although it wasn’t easy, I really enjoyed getting up into the mountains and seeing the incredible views of the valley below.
I spent New Year’s Eve with French friends from the church that I have been attending since I arrived in Sallanches in September. It was special to spend the evening cooking together and playing board games, which also gave me a great opportunity to practise my French. I found it very rewarding to have spent the whole evening speaking in French and to have made friendships here that I hope to stay in touch with even after I leave.
Returning to work after the Christmas holidays has been enjoyable, particularly as the hectic winter period has now passed. I am currently spending most of my time in the office completing administrative tasks such as answering phone calls from clients and preparing wine samples in the warehouse. I have also been able to dedicate more time to creative tasks, including producing marketing content for social media and constructing a content plan for the new year.
Last weekend, I visited Annecy again to meet an American friend who is spending some time in Europe. As she also speaks French, it was great to catch up and share our experiences of travelling and living in the Haute-Savoie region. With only two months left of my internship, I am trying to make the most of the few weekends I have left to continue exploring the area.
