Rapport mensuel – mai à Annecy – Hannah Smith – May 2026

Ce mois-ci, j’ai profité du beau temps estival à Annecy. Comme le temps s’est amélioré, la ville est devenue de plus en plus animée et fréquentée. Davantage de restaurants et de cafés d’été ont ouvert pour la saison, ce qui a créé une ambiance très dynamique dans toute la ville.

Il y a quelques semaines, je suis retournée au village où j’ai travaillé pendant mon ancien stage pour célébrer l’anniversaire d’un ami. Nous sommes allés au Lac Vert, un magnifique lac vert situé en haut des montagnes, entouré d’un beau paysage. Le soir, nous avons fait un feu de camp dans la forêt et nous avons passé du temps ensemble, en mangeant de la pizza et en faisant griller des marshmallows. C’était un week-end très agréable et j’ai hâte de partir en vacances dans le sud de la France avec ce groupe d’amis pendant l’été.

Récemment, en dehors du travail, j’ai beaucoup plus exploré Annecy. J’ai fait des randonnées dans les montagnes environnantes et j’ai loué des vélos pour faire le Tour du Lac. La semaine dernière, il faisait vraiment beau, alors quelques amis que j’ai rencontrés au Language Café et moi avons loué un pédalo sur le lac pendant une heure. J’ai vraiment hâte de faire davantage d’activités estivales comme celles-ci au cours des prochaines semaines, surtout parce qu’il ne me reste plus beaucoup de temps à Annecy.

Pendant les jours fériés de mai, l’autre stagiaire et moi avons pris quelques jours de congé pour voyager dans le sud de la France, où nous avons pris l’avion à Nice pour le week-end. Nous avons passé un très bon moment à explorer la ville, à visiter les marchés locaux et à goûter la cuisine régionale. J’ai particulièrement aimé la socca (une crêpe à base de farine de pois chiches), et nous avons aussi goûté de délicieuses pâtes aux fruits de mer. Le dimanche, nous avons pris le train à Monaco, où nous avons vu le célèbre casino et certaines parties du circuit de Formule 1.

Cette semaine a marqué le début du plus grand événement annuel dans le calendrier du centre de conférence. Pendant deux semaines, le centre accueille des participants venus du monde entier pour assister à une conférence internationale sur la vaccinologie. Jusqu’ici, tout se passe bien et j’ai beaucoup apprécié de rencontrer des personnes et d’utiliser mes compétences linguistiques pour parler avec des participants venant de continents différents.

This month, I have been making the most of the summer weather in Annecy. As the weather has improved, the city has become increasingly busy and lively. More summer restaurants and cafés have opened for the season, which has created a really active atmosphere around the city.

A few weeks ago, I returned to the village where I worked during my previous placement to celebrate a friend’s birthday. We went to Lac Vert, a stunning green lake high up in the mountains, surrounded by beautiful scenery. In the evening, we made a campfire in the woods and spent time together eating homemade pizza and toasting marshmallows. It was a really lovely weekend, and I am already looking forward to going on holiday to the south of France with this group of friends during the summer.

Recently, outside of work, I have been exploring Annecy much more. I have been going on hikes in the surrounding mountains and have hired bikes to complete the Tour du Lac. Last week, the weather was especially good, so some friends I met through the Language Café and I hired a pédalo on the lake for an hour. I am really looking forward to doing more summer activities like this over the next few weeks, especially as I do not have much longer left in Annecy.

During the May bank holiday, the other intern and I took a couple of days off work to travel to the south of France, where we flew to Nice for the weekend. We had a great time exploring the city, visiting local markets, and trying the regional food. I especially enjoyed the famous socca (a chickpea pancake), and we also had some amazing seafood pasta. In the evenings, we went on a bar crawl, where we met other international students. On Sunday, we took the train to Monaco, where we saw the famous casino and parts of the Formula 1 circuit.

This week at work marked the beginning of the biggest annual event in the conference centre’s calendar. For two weeks, the centre is welcoming people from all over the world for an international conference on vaccinology. So far, everything has run smoothly, and I have really enjoyed meeting people and using my language skills to speak with attendees from different continents.
