Toledo from a view
He tenido un increíble comienzo del mes de febrero, visitar a mi equipo favorito en Madrid en un emocionante partido y también he viajado a las afueras de Madrid para visitar la hermosa y antigua ciudad de Toledo. Empezaré con el partido.
El sábado 12, viajé al Wanda Metropolitano para ver el partido del Atlético de Madrid contra el Getafe FC. El Atlético de Madrid es mi equipo favorito, cada vez que voy el ambiente es eléctrico en todo el estadio, con ruido y cánticos constantes de los aficionados mientras las luces rojos y blancos creaban un ambiente poderoso que realmente refleja el prestigio del equipo y la belleza de su moderno estadio. El Wanda Metropolitano es bastante nuevo, ya que jugó su primer partido allí en 2017 después de muchos años y recuerdos en su anterior estadio. Los aficionados acuden desde todo Madrid a esta estructura monolítica que demuestra la grandeza del fútbol español. El partido fue extremadamente emocionante, y reñido, con ambos equipos luchando muy ferozmente y terminando en un thriller de 7 goles. Tres penaltis y una tarjeta roja, ya que el Getafe se negó a perder. Afortunadamente, el Atlético de Madrid se impuso con un gol de Mario Hermoso en el último minuto, que produjo un clamor en el público que nunca olvidaré. Fue una experiencia realmente memorable y estoy deseando volver a visitar mi estadio favorito de Madrid pronto.
Al día siguiente, visité Toledo, una pintoresca y antigua ciudad que fluye con toneladas de historia de varios grupos de pueblos diferentes a lo largo del tiempo. La ciudad está muy cerca de Madrid, se puede coger un autobús en el centro de Madrid y llegar a Toledo en menos de 45 minutos. Nada más llegar, nos quedamos boquiabiertos con las impresionantes vistas, ya que tuvimos que subir una empinada colina para llegar al corazón de la ciudad. Desde allí, se podían ver todas las casas y catedrales en la distancia con más de 2000 años de historia que definen la identidad de la ciudad. Una vez que se asciende al centro de la ciudad, está lleno de calles estrechas y empedradas, lo que me hizo retroceder en el tiempo hasta una época medieval, ya que la arquitectura me recordaba exactamente a esto. Mucha gente estaba fuera, disfrutando del tiempo y viendo las antiguas estructuras, monasterios y casas mientras nosotros también nos empapábamos de la belleza de esta ciudad. Después de parar para almorzar y tomar un delicioso helado, hicimos un recorrido a pie por la ciudad en el que un guía turístico nos instruyó a fondo sobre cada sitio en el que nos deteníamos, contándonos historias y fábulas sobre la ciudad que daban vida a cada monumento que veíamos. Me interesó mucho cómo ciertas estructuras fueron habitadas por varias etnias en diferentes períodos. Por ejemplo, debido a la conquista musulmana de España, se construyó una mezquita a partir de una sinagoga que luego se convirtió en iglesia tras la Reconquista y que ahora sirve de lugar para todos. Las inscripciones árabes en la fachada del edificio me interesaron mucho, ya que la arquitectura árabe se mezclaba con la medieval del sur de Europa para crear barrios muy interesantes. Cuando el sol se cayo y llegó la noche, caminamos por el borde de la ciudad, ya que estaba en una colina, para poder disfrutar las vistas. La vista era aún más impresionante por la noche, ya que las torres, las murallas y las catedrales estaban espléndidamente iluminadas para crear una magnífica vibración. su elegancia por la noche es realmente inigualable, y aporta un elemento mágico. Recomiendo encarecidamente a todos los que estén en España que visiten Toledo, sobre todo para huir del bullicio de las ciudades, porque es una escapada relajante y una vuelta al pasado.

I believe I have had an amazing start to the month of February, having been to visit my favourite football team in Madrid in an exciting match and also travelled just outside of Madrid to visit the beautiful and antique town of Toledo. I shall start with the match.
On Saturday the 12th, I travelled to the Wanda Metropolitano to watch Atletico Madrid play against Getafe FC. Atletico Madrid is my favourite team, each time I go the atmosphere is electric all around the stadium, with constant noise and chanting from passionate fans whilst the red and white floodlights provide a powerful ambience that really reflects the prestige of the team and the beauty of its modern stadium. The Wanda Metropolitano is fairly new, having played their first match there in 2017 after many years and memories at their previous ground. Fans flock from all over Madrid to this monolith structure that demonstrates the grandeur of Spanish football. The game was extremely exciting, and close, with both teams battling very fiercely and ending in a 7 goal thriller. Three penalties and a red card as Getafe refused to bow down before these giants of Spanish football. Fortunately, Atletico Madrid won with a last minute goal from Mario Hermoso, which produced a roar in the crowd that I will never forget. It was truly a memorable experience and I look forward to visiting my favourite stadium in Madrid once more soon.
The day after, I visited Toledo, a quaint and antique town flowing with tons of history from various different groups of peoples over time. The city is extremely close to Madrid, one can catch a bus in the centre of Madrid and arrive in Toledo in less than 45 minutes. As soon as we arrived we were stunned by the breathtaking views, as we had to climb up a steep hill to reach the heart of the city. From there, one could see all the houses and

cathedrals in the distance with over 2000 years of history defining the city’s identity. Once you ascend to the city centre, it is full of narrow cobble streets, taking me back in time to a medieval period as the architecture reminded me exactly of this. Many people were out, enjoying the weather and seeing the ancient structures, monasteries and houses as we too soaked in the beauty of this city. After stopping for lunch and delicious ice cream, we took a walking tour of the city in which a tour-guide educated us thoroughly on each site we stopped at, telling us stories and fables about the city that brought life to each monument we saw. It interested me a lot how certain structures were inhabited by various ethnicities at different periods. For example, due to the Muslim conquest of Spain, a mosque was constructed from a synagogue which was later converted to a church after the Reconquista and now serves as a site for all. The Arabic writings on the front of the building interested me a lot as the Arab architecture blended with medieval southern European to create very interesting neighbourhoods. As the sun began to set and night came, we walked along the edge of the city, as it was on a hill, in order to catch a view. The view was even more breathtaking at night, as the towers, walls and cathedrals were all lit up splendidly to create a gorgeous vibrance. its elegance at night is truly unrivalled, and brings a magical element to it. I thoroughly recommend anyone who is in Spain to visit Toledo, particularly as an escape from the hustle and bustle of the cities, because it provides a relaxing escape and a blast into the past.
