Chloe Salmon: Seville, Spain – November 2025
¡Este mes ha sido una locura y muy ocupado! Mi trabajo de la universidad ha aumentado muchísimo, y he tenido que entregar muchos portafolios y presentaciones. Esta semana tuve una presentación oral que era el 40% de mi nota sobre el género y la sexualidad en el imperio hispánico durante los siglos XVI y XVII. ¡Fue muy aterrador estar delante de toda mi clase y hablar durante treinta minutos, pero salió muy bien, y mis profesores dijeron que estaban muy impresionados con mi español y que lo entendieron todo muy bien y que fue muy interesante!
Además de mi presentación, entregamos la primera parte del trabajo en grupo de mi módulo de cohesión social, y después tuvimos que evaluarnos entre nosotros. Encontré el trabajo en grupo bastante difícil ya que era la única estudiante internacional, pero los comentarios que me dio mi grupo fueron muy positivos y dijeron que no dejé que la barrera del idioma parrarme!
También, este mes he explorado un poco más de Sevilla. Fui a la catedral y visité iglesias con mi nueva amiga española. Se llama Alba y este mes fue su cumpleaños. Para celebrarlo me invitó a su fiesta, y probé un pastel tradicional español, y dentro de mi porción había un bebe, lo que significa que tendré buena suerte durante todo el año. Ser amiga de personas españolas, especialmente de Alba, me ha enseñado muchísimo español, sobre todo el español que usan los jóvenes, ¡y estoy ganando mucha más confianza en mis habilidades!
Además, experimenté las urgencias en España por primera vez con mi amiga, y aunque fue una experiencia abrumadora, fue bueno saber que, en una situación de emergencia, todo estaría bien.
El fin de semana pasado hice un viaje a Gibraltar y subí la montaña para ver a los monos. Fue una experiencia genial y conocí a un monito adorable, y saqué muchos fotos en mi nueva camera. Fue un lugar muy extraño porque se parecía muchísimo a Inglaterra, pero el clima era mucho mejor. ¡También vi un M&S y compré todos mis comidas favoritas! Fue tan nostálgico estar allí porque he trabajado en M&S desde los 16 años, y era exactamente igual a pesar de estar tan lejos de casa.
La semana que viene voy al cine con mi amiga, y vamos a ver una proyección de 5 horas de Wicked. ¡Será mi primera vez en un cine español y espero entender lo que pasa!
This month has been a crazy and busy month! My university work has increased massively, and I have had lots of portfolios and presentations to submit. This week, I had an oral presentation that was 40% of my grade about gender and sexuality in Hispanic empire during the 16th and 17th centuries. It was so scary standing in front of my entire class and speaking for thirty minutes, but it went really well, and my professors said they were very impressed with my Spanish and that they understood everything very well and it was very interesting!
As well as my presentation, we submitted the first portion of group work in my social cohesion module, and after we had to peer review each other. I found the group work quite challenging because I was the only international student, but the feedback my group gave was very positive and they said that I did not let the language barrier stop me!
Also, this month, I have explored a little more of Sevilla. I went to the cathedral, and I viewed churches with my new Spanish friend. Her name is Alba, and this month it was her birthday. For her birthday she invited me to her party, and I tried a traditional Spanish cake, and within my cake there was a baby, meaning that I get good luck for the whole year. Being friends with Spanish people, especially Alba, has taught me so much Spanish, especially the Spanish that young people use, and I am getting so much more confident with my ability.
Also, I experienced Spanish urgent care for the first time with my friend, and although it was an overwhelming experience, it was refreshing to know that in an emergency situation, everything would be okay.
Last weekend I went on a trip to Gibraltar, and went on a hike up the mountain to see the monkeys. It was such a cool experience and I met an adorable baby monkey, and I took lots of pictures on my new camera. It was such a strange place because it was so similar to England, but the weather was so much better. I saw an M&S too and I bought all of my favourite snacks – it was so nostalgic being there because I have worked at M&S since I was 16, and it was exactly the same despite being so far away from home.
Next week I am going to the cinema with my friend, and we are going to watch a 5 hour showing of Wicked. This will be my first time in a Spanish cinema, and I hope that I understand what is happening!
