Hannah Smtth: Mon premier mois complet à Annecy ! – April 2026
Depuis mon dernier rapport mensuel, j’ai maintenant passé un peu plus d’un mois à vivre et à travailler à Annecy. Il m’a fallu du temps pour m’adapter, mais ayant déjà passé les six derniers mois en France, le déménagement dans une nouvelle ville a été rafraîchissant et plus confortable, surtout grâce à ma plus grande confiance en français.
Pendant les dernières semaines, j’ai beaucoup apprécié travailler comme réceptionniste dans un centre de conférence prestigieux. Chaque jour est différent et, après quelques jours initiaux de formation, c’était génial de commencer à prendre confiance en interagissant avec les clients et en utilisant mon français. Au début, l’adaptation à un type de travail complètement nouveau était un défi, surtout parce que je n’avais jamais travaillé dans un rôle de réceptionniste auparavant. Mon emploi du temps est organisé en horaires de travail en rotation, avec soit des matinées de 7h à 14h30, soit des soirées de 14h à 21h. Mes tâches sont assez similaires chaque jour et comprennent des tâches administratives, ainsi que l’accueil des clients. Je dois être une personne accueillante et capable de répondre à leurs questions.
Il a été particulièrement intéressant d’utiliser à la fois mon français et mon anglais, car le centre accueille une clientèle très internationale. J’ai remarqué une réelle amélioration de mon français, notamment dans le langage quotidien ainsi que dans un vocabulaire plus spécifique lié au travail. Cela dit, j’ai toujours l’impression d’apprendre quelque chose de nouveau chaque jour, car chaque client apporte des demandes différentes. L’un des aspects les plus difficiles jusqu’à présent a été de répondre au téléphone en français
En ce qui concerne la construction d’une vie sociale à Annecy, j’ai beaucoup aimé participer au « Language Café » qui a lieu tous les mercredis soirs dans un bar du centre-ville. C’est un excellent moyen de rencontrer à la fois des Français et d’autres internationaux, avec qui nous pouvons partager nos expériences à Annecy tout en parlant différentes langues. Il y a une grande diversité de personnes, allant des étudiants aux professionnels, de tous âges et de tous experiences.
De manière générale, j’apprécie beaucoup la vie à Annecy. La ville est beaucoup plus grande que celle où j’ai vécu pendant les six mois précédents, et elle est très dynamique, avec de nombreuses activités sportives et des clubs auxquels il est possible de participer, notamment la course à pied. Ce week-end, Annecy accueille un marathon, donc la ville sera probablement très chargée.
Avec l’amélioration du temps, la ville devient de plus en plus fréquentée par les touristes, et j’ai entendu dire qu’en pleine saison estivale, elle peut devenir très bondée. Dans l’ensemble, je suis enthousiaste à l’idée de voir ce que les quatre prochains mois me réservent.
Since my last monthly report, I have now spent just over a month living and working in Annecy. It has taken some time to adapt, but having already spent the last six months in France, the move to a new city has felt refreshing and more comfortable, especially with my increased confidence in French.
Over the past few weeks, I have really enjoyed working as a receptionist at a prestigious conference centre. Each day is different, and after a few initial days of training, it was great to begin building confidence in interacting with clients and using my French. At first, adapting to a completely new type of job was challenging, particularly as I have never worked in a reception role before. My timetable is based on shift work, with either morning shifts from 7:00 to 14:30 or evening shifts from 14:00 to 21:00. My responsibilities are fairly consistent and include administrative tasks, welcoming clients, and being a friendly, approachable presence who can answer any questions they may have.
It has been particularly interesting to use both my French and English, as the centre has a very international clientele. I have noticed a real improvement in my French, especially in everyday language as well as more specific, work-related vocabulary. That said, I still feel that I am learning something new every day, as each client brings different requests. One of the most challenging aspects so far has been answering the phone in French.
In terms of building a social life in Annecy, I have been enjoying attending the “Language Café” held every Wednesday evening at a local bar in the town centre. It has been a great way to meet both French people and other internationals, where we can share our experiences in Annecy while speaking different languages. There is a real mix of people, from students to professionals of all ages and backgrounds.
Overall, I am really enjoying living in Annecy. It is much larger than the town where I spent the previous six months, and it feels very active, with plenty of sports activities and clubs to get involved in, particularly running. This weekend, Annecy is hosting a marathon, so the city will likely be very busy. As the weather improves, the number of tourists is increasing, and I have been told that during the peak summer months it can become quite crowded.
Overall, I am excited to see what the next four months will bring.
