Mon premier week-end à Toulouse, la ville rose! -Gabriela Mir, September 2026

Avec trop d’envie de commencer mon année en France! L’onze septembre, je me suis réveillée à 4h de matin (quelle horreur…). Je devais prendre le train Bayonne-Toulouse a 6h59, et mon oncle a généreusement offert à me rendre en voiture. Donc, 2h de trajet, arrivant à la gare de Bayonne quand avant la levée du soleil. J’ai commandé un café au lait pour mon oncle et finalement, le train est arrivé. A propos, les billets de train peuvent s’acheter avec l’appli SNCF, et prendre une carte Avantage Jeune est une bonne idée parce qu’elle réduit le prix de tous les billets. Je me suis endormie pendant la plupart du voyage en train, mais j’ai apprécié le paysage, avec les Pyrénées et des vaches.
A 10h30 nous sommes arrivés, et j’ai pris un taxi pour aller au campus de l’Université de Toulouse III. J’ai reçu mes clés et déménagé dans ma nouvelle chambre!
J’ai pris mon repas dans le Resto du Crous, payant avec Izly c’était 1 euro! J’ai fait quelques petits cours, et visité la bibliothèque BU, qui avait beaucoup de bandes dessinées. J’ai emprunté deux livres, et j’emprunterai beaucoup plus, certainement. J’adore le campus Paul Sabatier III, l’opposition du vert des arbres contre le joli bleu du ciel. C’est un campus énorme, qui est différent du campus de mon université à Londres. J’ai dîné au CROUS, et j’ai parlé avec une étudiante de Master de neuroscience. Elle s’appelle Mylène et a étudié sa licence à Lyon.
Samedi, j’ai visité le centre-ville de Toulouse. J’ai vu la place du Capitole, la Basilique Saint Sernin, la place Daurade, et croisé le Pont-Neuf. Le nombre de librairies m’a plu énormément, surtout Gibert-Joseph qui vend des livres d’occasion (bien de bandes dessinées et manga aussi!) et Ombres Blanches qui est spécialisée sur l’apprentissage de langues (ils ont des livres de texte mais aussi des romans et contes dans d’autres langues).
Dimanche, je suis allée avec des étudiants d’Erasmus au lac Ramée. Nous avons eu la chance de voir un triathlon! J’ai plongé mes pieds dans le lac et pris le soleil.
Le lundi, je commence mon stage au CBI (Centre de Biologie Intégrative).

I’m very excited to start my year in France! The 11th of September, I woke up at 4AM (how terrible…). I had to get the train from Bayonne to Toulouse at 6:59AM, and my uncle generously offered to drive me to the station. Thus, two hours of travel, arriving to Bayonne train station before sunrise. I ordered a coffee with milk for my uncle and finally, the train arrived. By the way, train tickets in France can be bought with the SNCF app, and buying an Avantage Jeune card is a good idea because it reduces the prices of all the tickets. I fell asleep for most of the train trip, but I did appreciate the landscape, with the Pyrenees and cows in the distance.
We arrived at 10:30, and I got a taxi to go to the University of Toulouse III campus. I received my keys and moved into my new room!
I ate lunch at the Crous restaurant, paying with Izly lunch was only a euro! I ran some errands and visited the BU library, which had lots of French comics. I borrowed two books and will certainly borrow more. I love Paul Sabatier III campus, the contrast of the green of the trees with the pretty sky blue. It’s a huge campus, unlike the campus at my uni in London. I dined at Crous and chatted with a Masters neuroscience student. Her name is Mylène and she studied her undergrad in Lyon.
On Saturday, I visited Toulouse city centre. I saw the Capitole square, Saint Cernin Basilica, Daurade square, and crossed the Pont-Neuf. I really liked how many bookshops there were, in particular Gibert-Joseph which sells secondhand books (lots of French comics and manga too!) and Ombres Blanches [White Shadows] which specialises in language learning (they have textbooks but also novels and short stories in other languages). On Sunday, I went to Lac de la Ramée with some Erasmus students. We were lucky enough to see a triathlon! I dipped my feet into the lake and sunbathed.
On Monday, I started my internship at the CBI (Centre for Integrative Biology).
