Yasemin Kaban: 日本のゴールデンウイーク/Golden Week in Japan (May 2026)

みんな、こんにちは！ゴールデンウイークは日本の有名な連休です。今年4月29日から5月6日まででした。だから授業がありませんでした。ゴールデンウイーク中学校と仕事を休めますから、たいてい日本人は日本に旅行しています。だから、京都と東京のような人気がある都市はよく込んでいます。私は、抹茶で有名な宇治と大阪に日帰り旅行に行こうと思っていましたが、天気が悪かったし、少し忙しかったし、日帰り旅行をしないで、京都にいました。

ゴールデンウイークの始まりに、いつも着物がとてもきれいだと思いましたから、友達と着物を借りました。選べる着物がたくさんあったし、着物も本当に美しかったし、そえにアクセサリーやハンドバッグもとてもかわいかったです。自分で着物の重ね着を選べましたが、完璧着物の取り合わせをみつけるのはほんとうに難しかったと思いました。スタッフが私たちのかみをスタイリングしてくれました。そしてスタッフは親切で、話しやすかったですから、日本語で会話ができました。とくにスタッフは私たちに留学生について多くの質問をしました。着物の重ね着がたくさんありましたから、着物を正しく着るのに時間がかかりました。

日本の文化とれきしにおいて着物はとても大切です。もちろんむかしより今日本人は着物をあまり着ませんが、時々とくべつなイベントやおまつりやけっこんしきで着物を着ます。それから、京都に今でも着物を着ている人々があります。

着物を借りた後で、近かった八坂神社と円山公園に行きました。着物がきつけて、でんとうてきなぞうりもいわかんがありましたから、最初はほとんど歩けなかったんですが、しばらくすると歩きやすくなりました。友達と一緒に写真をたくさんとったり、ソフトクリームを食べたりできましたから、すばらしい一日でした。

着物を借りるのはとても楽しくて、きょうみぶかい経験でした。せひまたやってみたいと思っています。着物を着て外出するのは時々少し居心地がわるかったんですが、着物文化について多くのこと学びました。着物が美して、独特ですから、人々はいつもあなたを見てます。そしてある時、外国人の男性は私たちと一緒に写真をとりたいと言ってきたんですが、私はそれが奇妙に感じ、とても不快な思いをしました。かんきゅきゃくが敬をはらいながら、日本の文化やでんとうを楽しめるようにしたいです。

Hello everyone! Golden Week is a famous public holiday in Japan. This year, it ran from 29 April to 6 May. So we didn’t have classes. Since you can take time off from school and work during Golden Week, most Japanese people travel around the country. Consequently, popular cities like Kyoto and Tokyo tend to get very crowded. I had planned to go on a day trip to Uji, which is famous for its matcha, and Osaka, but the weather was bad, and I was a bit busy, so I decided not to go and stayed in Kyoto instead.

At the start of Golden Week, as I always thought kimonos looked so beautiful, I decided to rent one with my friends. There were lots of kimonos to choose from, and they were really beautiful, what’s more, the accessories and handbags were very cute too. We were able to choose the layers of the kimono ourselves, but I found it really difficult to find the perfect kimono combination. The staff styled our hair for us. They were very kind and easy to talk to, so we were able to have conversations in Japanese. In particular, they asked us lots of questions about being international students. As there were so many layers to the kimono, it took quite a while to put it on properly.

The kimono is very important in Japanese culture and history. Of course, Japanese people don’t wear kimonos as much as they used to in the past, but they do wear them occasionally for special events, festivals and weddings. Furthermore, there are still people in Kyoto who still wear kimonos today.

After renting the kimonos, we went to the nearby Yasaka Shrine and Maruyama Park. As we were wearing kimonos and traditional zori sandals, we could hardly walk at first, but after a while, it became easier. Since I was able to take lots of photos with my friends and eat soft-serve ice cream, it was a wonderful day.

Renting a kimono was a fun and fascinating experience. I’d definitely like to do it again. Although I felt a bit self-conscious at times in public in my kimono, I learned a lot about kimono culture. Because kimonos are beautiful and unique, people are always looking at you. And at one point, a foreign man asked to take a photo with us, but I found that strange, and it made me feel very uncomfortable. I would like tourists to be able to enjoy Japanese culture and traditions whilst being respectful.
